Redding Electric Utility Electrification Incentives

The Redding Electric Utility (REU) has established a program to promote electrification of homes and businesses by providing several financial incentives. REU provides those incentives for the following categories:

Heat pump water heaters

Heat pump clothes dryers

E-bikes

Electric Vehicles

Residential new construction electrification financial

Commercial hot water heating and EV fast charging stations

For an overall description of REU’s program, and for more information on how to apply see this page.

For heat pump water heaters, a rebate of $1000 is available. To obtain this rebate, you must replace an existing gas water heater with a heat pump unit. If you are switching from an existing conventional electric water heater, the rebate is not available, even though a heat pump water heater is much more efficient than a conventional electric unit.

For clothes dryers, a rebate of $200 is available.  Similar to the heat pump water heater, you must replace an existing gas dryer with a heat pump dryer. Rebates for changing out a conventional electric dryer are not available.

A $1150 voucher for an e-bike is available through the program. However, this voucher is income limited, and you must also be participating in REU’s  residential energy discount program to qualify. See the e-bike web page for income requirements. Vouchers are only available at participating dealers, and currently there is only one, The Bike Shop. REU is working on adding additional vendors.

The electric vehicle (EV) program has a point-of-purchase incentive of $3,000. Like the e-bike program it is subject to income qualifications. See the EV web page for those income requirements. The incentive is available currently for the Redding Kia and Subaru, and Lithia Chevrolet dealerships. REU is working on enrolling additional dealerships.

The Residential New Construction Electrification program offers rebates up to $1800 to new home builders fulfilling specific requirements.

If you are a commercial business or multifamily residential property owner, REU offers rebates for the installation of a heat pump water heater ($1000) and an EV fast charging station ($6000).

NSCA members have reviewed the web site pages for these rebates. We found some of the pages a bit difficult to understand and are working with REU to provide some clarifications. If you are interested in applying for one of the above rebates and have questions regarding any of the web pages, you can email reddingrebate@egia.org or call (866) 260-6820.
